Tony Kane

Tony is the Waikato Business Mentors Coordinator matching mentees and mentors within the NZ Business Mentor scheme. He has 27 years’ experience as an independent business advisor in the public and private sectors, especially working with SME’s.

He is involved in advising private companies on business strategy, planning, capital raising, system design and implementation. Tony has had a number of governance and advisory roles on private sector and trust boards. He has been a judge in the Waikato Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards from 2004 to 2015 and was Chief Judge in 2014 and 2015. He has been a judge in the Waikato Export Awards and the South Waikato Business Excellence Awards. He has participated on the Waikato University Management School business advisory board.

Tony has had over seventeen years’ experience in facilitating the preparation of economic development strategies in the Waikato. He has assisted district councils, CRI’s, community groups and industry bodies with preparing independent advisory documents covering; economic development strategies, situation analyses, strategy implementation plans, business cases/feasibility studies, marketing, facilitation, capital raising, funding systems and operational analyses.

He has also carried out numerous capability assessments on private companies on behalf of government and quasi government agencies like; Business Development Boards, NZTE training voucher scheme and investor groups. He is also experienced in preparing and evaluating R&D grant applications.
