COVID-19 Business Support

As part of the Government to response to COVID-19 they have announced on 10 March a $4million regional support package for SMEs which will be delivered using the Regional Business Partners Network.

Te Waka’s Business Growth Team will deliver this programme with the support of the service provider network, regional organisations and district councils.  

We have sent out a survey to gather insights from the business community which will inform what we deliver to support businesses, we will immediately be offering one-on-one business advisory services to all businesses in the Waikato.

Through all that, we are delivering the work done for many years by Waikato Innovation Park’s Business Growth Services. This team works with New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) and Government agency, Callaghan Innovation, to boost our region through business growth.

Our Growth Advisors take a bird's-eye look at your whole business, then help you connect with the right resources and experts so you can build capability and grow. As part of a national network of people who can help, we’re your first port of call when you want to grow your enterprise efficiently and effectively.

2.) One of our Growth Advisors will be in touch within 48 hours
3.) We’ll chat about your growth aspirations and any challenges you may be facing
4.) Your Growth Advisor will come back with an action plan and key priorities
5.) You follow the plan, connecting with the right people and information, so you get the support you need to build your capabilities
6.) After an agreed time your Growth Advisor follows-up to check on your progress and review your next steps

What funding do we deliver?

We deliver funding on behalf of Government agency, Callaghan Innovation, and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) for eligible businesses and Maori Trusts throughout the Waikato region (criteria apply).  

NZTE Capability Voucher funding

NZTE Capability Development Vouchers are available to businesses to use as partial payment towards the cost of capability development and training in the following areas: Business Planning, Business Systems, Business Sustainability, Capital Raising, Export, Finance, Governance, Lean Manufacturing / Business Operations, Managing Resources, and Marketing.

  • Co-fund 50% up to a maximum of $5000 per year
  • Capability Development Training for Management
  • Business must cover remaining 50% of total cost

Callaghan Innovation funding

We can help you apply for a range of R&D grants to add scale, depth and return to your R&D investment – whether you’re a young start-up, or an established R&D performer, we can connect you with the right funding to help your R&D get ahead.

  • Funding for research and development
  • Co-fund up to 40% of total cost
  • Business must cover remaining 60% of cost

We can also help you bring students on board to assist in your R&D activities with the R&D Experience Grant which is designed to bring smart, enthusiastic and fresh thinking into your company with support provided by tertiary students in their summer break. Your business will receive funding for 400 hours of full-time work for a student to help you with an R&D project or activity.

Cambridge-based website developers Rocketspark used the R&D Experience Grant to enable students to help them develop a high-value web project they wouldn’t have otherwise had the time of resource to do – check it out here.
